The Verse

Those looking for a more succinct explanation will need to look elsewhere. This is not a crib sheet for the vague and meandering concept of the Mezzaverse. Just like the rest of us, you’ll need to figure it out one panel at a time.

What we can tell you is this…

It’s big. Infinite as far as we can figure. As far as we go, as long as we climb, as much as we poke around all we’ve found is more tangled messes of circuitry. Some of it has not seen the footfalls of anyone for a long time, in disrepair and leaking, tangled, broken. Some is eerily pristine, but quiet. In other places there are critters keeping watch, welcoming or warning us off, depending on the day. But we trudge on. Heavy, huh?

8R4D’s Journal

This is my first attempt at writing a webcomic. Be gentle. I’m not creating it so much for anything as much as I’m creating it force myself to build something moderately productive from intersecting interests in writing, doodling, storytelling, art, and web design — and hopefully learn something in the process. If you like it, great! On each panel page there will be a little “8R4D’s Journal” section where I try and explain a little bit about the creation process. If you don’t like it, I very much welcome CONSTRUCTIVE CRITIQUE and will flat out censor comments that are just inFLAMEatory. Get it?

Things We’ve Seen

The Valley of the Processors

Telo and Grim grew up here and will probably never go back. Sad, but the price one pays for setting out in the world. It’s not that it’s too far, it’s just they’ve become quite lost and no one else seems to have heard of it. But then, one might imagine that in an infinite tangle of circuitry there is hope to find other places like home. Right?

Dimmnaut

Mentioned, but not seen. A few days walk from the Valley, this is not so much a settlement as a charging hovel for a more disreputable class of bug. Those wishing to hire shady characters for vague and ill-defined adventures into dangerous places would do well to start here — assuming one’s standards are low.

The Wilds

Leave it to a bunch of hicks from a place called “The Valley” to assume their clump of tangled wires is the ONLY wilderness and worthy of such a name. It might have been due sheer laziness that folks just call these places by a name such as “The Wilds” and not something more formal. Truth be told, if one of them were to bother looking up their remote corner of the Mezzaverse on a map — assuming that such a map existed — some ancient and more unique name might be more applicable to the swaths of nearly-impassible, highly-unnavigable tangles. I mean, one doesn’t normally find inexplicably rare and powerful artifacts laying around just anywhere, right? One might almost think these places might have been important… once.
